The temple is believed to have been built during the Pallava dynasty (6th century AD) The temple was expanded and renovated by the Chola dynasty (10th century AD) and the Vijayanagara Empire (14th century AD).The temple underwent a major expansion during the reign of Sri Krishnadeva Raya (16th century AD). The temple faced challenges during the Muslim rule in the region. The temple has undergone significant changes and renovations in recent times, including the addition of modern amenities and facilities.

Mythological Significance: - The temple is dedicated to Lord Venkateswara, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. - The temple is believed to be the site where Lord Venkateswara appeared in a vision to a devotee named Raja Vasireddy. - The temple is said to be the "Earthly Abode" of Lord Venkateswara.

2. Akasha Ganga Theertham

  • Location: 3 km from the main temple.
  • Significance: This sacred waterfall is believed to be directly connected to Lord Venkateswara’s temple and is used for temple rituals. Pilgrims consider bathing here to be purifying and spiritually uplifting.

3. Papavinasam Theertham

  • Location: 5 km from the main temple.
  • Significance: Known as the "Sin-cleansing" waterfall, a dip here is believed to wash away sins. The area also offers scenic views and a tranquil atmosphere.

4. Sri Venugopala Swamy Temple

  • Location: Near Papavinasam.
  • Significance: Dedicated to Lord Krishna, this temple is a serene spot for those seeking spiritual solace amidst the beauty of nature.

5. Chakra Theertham

  • Location: Near the temple.
  • Significance: Associated with Lord Vishnu’s Sudarshana Chakra, this sacred pond is believed to cleanse devotees of their sins and grant them blessings.

6. Sri Varahaswami Temple

  • Location: North of the main temple on the banks of Swami Pushkarini.
  • Significance: Lord Varahaswami is considered the guardian deity of Tirumala. It is customary to visit this temple before Lord Venkateswara's darshan.

7. Silathoranam

  • Location: Near Chakra Theertham.

8. Srivari Padalu

  • Location: At Narayanagiri Hill, the highest point in Tirumala.

9. Japali Teertham

  • Location: Around 4 km from Tirumala.
  • Significance: This serene spot houses a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. Surrounded by lush greenery, it is a peaceful retreat for meditation and prayer.

10. Kapila Theertham

  • Location: At the foothills of Tirumala.
  • Significance: This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is associated with the Kapila Maharshi. The adjacent waterfall is considered highly sacred.


Tarigonda Vengamamba Nityannadanam for pilgrims 


The Tarigonda Vengamamba Nityannadanam is a part of the Sri Venkateswara Nithya Annadanam Trust, which serves free meals to pilgrims in Tirumala . The trust was started in 1985 and serves over 150,000 people on regular days and more than 200,000 people on special occasions . The Tarigonda Vengamamba Nityannadanam is named after the 18th-century poet and devotee of Lord Venkateswara, Tarigonda Vengamamba, who was known for her devotion and literary works. The Nityannadanam is a testament to her legacy and continues to serve pilgrims with free meals, promoting the values of devotion, service, and community.
